Volkswagen Passat B6 club - Firmware updates usually only deal with problems vs adding features to your system.

Hi, I have a 2008 3. I live in the UK, so I'm not sure if its slightly different to the ones found in the states etc. I have been trawling the web for a definitive answer on how to upgrade the firmware to the latest firmware. I am currently lead to believe that to find out your current firmware version you hold the setup button for around 30 seconds. Does this mean i have the oldest firmware? So, is there anyone that can either point me into the right direction or just tell me what firmware I need and how to do it. Grey hairs are starting to appear from my head pretty quickly now. Please help me preserve my natural hair Let me know if you need any more info! Geraout, Thank you and all the other members for stacks of great info. I bought my Treg 2 weeks ago and have spent a few hours reading through the many threads, especially those about updating the software and maps. I have followed your link and downloaded all 6 parts of the 3810 software and will burn a DVD and see what happens. I don't suppose you know if it is best to update in stages do you? My RNS510 is a pre version A unit. You don't need to disconnect any wiring just pull the unit forward far enough to see the label. Thanks in advance Andy in Lossie Andy My T2 08 Treg Altitude had the version 900 of the firmware on it was was upgraded by the dealer to version 1200, I have suffered an issue with mine earlier in the week when it lost all of it's settings and went into a Diagnostic mode asking me to insert the SWL-CD. Using the SWL Recovery CD from this I managed to get the 510 working and then I put firmware 1200 onto it. When burning the ISO to DVD only use DVD's as the 510 is fussy burn at 1x - I used Roxio and all my disks created have been accepted by the unit first time I now have voice control alias I cannot find which steering wheel button activates it!!! WildeMan, I downloaded all 6 parts of the software and extracted them to one disc, should I be using 6 seperate discs and using them one at a time, just one of the 6 files only dependant on part number of my head unit or just lob the disc with all 6 parts just under 4 gigabites into the head unit and sit back in trepidation? Ta Thanks Geraout, I think that I'll just give it a go with 3010 as per WildeMan's later post, after all what could go wrong..... Ta When all six parts are downloaded they will be. Once you have this file you then need to burn it to a DVD using a program that can burn ISO images to DVD and then you put the disc in a accept the prompts and then wait. Oh aye, and then reload the maps from my disc which says version 1!!! Thanks, I'll let you know how it all goes. I have v3 maps too says v1 on the box but v3 on the disc which will load but you will not get the added benefit of the 7 digit post code entry or POI's - you need v8 maps or later I believe for that. Let me know if you menu and buttons change colour from dark with a red outline to light grey with an orange outline as mine did? Thanks Ok, maybe I'm being thick here, dowloaded the RAR files double clicked on part 1 extracted using WinRar and a file called sw3810. What am I doing wrong? Where did you download the original rar files from?
